Mortgage rates increasing - is not something to be expected in these times of falling ECB rates.
Today - Halifax Ireland have increased variable mortgage rates for new customers. Before today’s increase Halifax did have the lowest rates in Ireland - maybe they have decided it was too low. Maybe there was pressure to increase rates in Ireland because of bad publicity in the UK. Halifax is now part of the Lloyds Banking group which was “bailed out” by the UK goverment recently. There was a lot of bad publicity because Halifax were offering lower rates in Ireland than in the UK.
